History Time-lapse

Looking at a remnant of a canal it can be difficult to place it in a historic or geographic context. Often it is just a ditch, if that.

This short video is my attempt to overcome that. It runs from 1750 to 1970 - the period that saw all canal building in England & Wales, and most of the abandonments.

The time-lapse is in 5 year intervals. You can of course pause or move back and forth as you wish. Black lines are open canals, red lines show abandoned canals. The orange blobs show construction activity during that period.
